MONTESSORI PHILOSOPHY

DESCRIPTION

This module assists practitioners to understand Dr. Montessori’s practical research on the education of young children. Some of these are the Absorbent Mind, the Prepared Environment, Normalisation, the Sensitivity Period and the Stages of Development. An appreciation of Montessori Education is included

OBJECTIVES

  • To develop an understanding of Maria Montessori’s life and work
  • To discuss the principles of the Montessori method
  • To discuss the organisation of the environment and management of children’s behaviour in the Montessori environment
  • To discuss the role of teacher in Maria Montessoria’s approach

CLASSROOM APPLICATION

DESCRIPTION

This module intends to help learners understand the many aspects of curriculum development and how current emerging theories and approaches relate to our understanding of curriculum development. Also, the module provides useful approaches to classroom management and develops awareness and knowledge of special education.

OBJECTIVES

  • To understand the fundamentals that contribute to developing the curriculum
  • To have an overview of some current methods and approaches that can be implemented in a Montessori classroom.
  • To discuss some appropriate approaches to classroom management
  • To understand basic knowledge of special education to apply in a classroom setting
